Now an author by way of Presence: A Bagua Path to Fulfillment Cowley reflects on spending the past ten years studying the mind/body connection to his environment through the framework of Chinese Internal Arts (Personal Circle Bagua/Qigong) and environmental immersion. Embodying the principle physics through personal self-study, most intensely over his recent five years in Westerly Rhode Island, he compiled his findings into a preliminary volume that he believes can prepare the student for a moment of Presence, or connection with their immediate environment. An enthusiast and researcher in the geosciences, Cowley has traveled throughout the country studying natural history and structural integration through paleontology. "To restore the anatomy of species long-since passed," Cowley explains, "an aware sense of personal body mechanics is a very open-minded and scientific approach to understanding our natural world: past, future and Present."

Cowley's current book project is in conjunction with the Westerly Land Trust. Immersing himself in their preserve lands, his plan is to spend one year applying whole-body awareness to experience his local environment. Transcending the mindset of constant "identification through seperation", he chronicles his field study as a progressive alternative for the public to achieve a sense of environmental connection. "The average human being in their current environment tends to seek enlightenment and environmental connection through modalities compiled from other countries, continents. Presence is universal. In this land we have Native American wisdom to guide us. We tend to forget that we all seek the same connection." Cowley weaves Native American philosophy into his studies to offer a complete case-study reference book in the form of a local field guide.
